1986 was a banner year for thrash. Metallica released Master of Puppets; Slayer, Reign in Blood; Megadeth, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?; Destruction, Eternal Devastation; Dark Angel, Darkness Descends. And German speed demons Kreator offered up their second album and undisputed magnum opus, Pleasure to Kill. It's legacy lives on — and reaches far and wide. Death-metal pioneers Cannibal Corpse have cited it as a major influence. Black-metal lightning rod Varg Vikernes was wearing a shirt emblazoned with its cover art after killing Mayhem's Euronymous. The LP's title track even appeared in the German Netflix series Dark. Teutonic thrash metal doesn't get more essential. Revolver Staff
